The corporate history of Worcester Eisenbrandt, Inc began in 1926 with the establishment of Sheppard Stone Weatherproofing of Baltimore, specialists in masonry repair, renovation, and restoration. In 1956, the company was reorganized as Fred H. Eisenbrandt Incorporated. Thirty-one years later, Eisenbrandt merged with Worcester Brothers Company, a firm experienced in concrete, wood, and steel construction and renovation, to form the comprehensive historic building conservation and restoration listing. Throughout its history, Worcester Eisenbrandt has applied its experience and expertise to numerous governmental, institutional, commercial, and private sites all over the Mid-Atlantic region. Of the over 1400 projects completed by Worcester since 1987, approximately 70% have been architecturally, historically, or culturally significant in nature. Indeed, many of Worcester’s projects are listed in or have been identified as potentially eligible for the National Register of Historic Places, and range from small, highly sensitive restoration efforts, like Hancock’s Resolution in Pasadena, Maryland, to large-scale multi-million dollar rehabilitation contracts, like the U.S. Department of Justice Headquarter in Washington, DC. As a result, Worcester Eisenbrandt continues to specialize in the repair and conservation of highly significant structures that require knowledge and experience in the treatment of historic building materials.

Mary Jo Llewellyn holds M.S. degree in Historic Preservation from the University of Vermont and has worked professionally in Vermont for over 32 years. Her work includes survey and inventory of historic resources, review of the impact of federal and state-funded projects on historic resources, Historic Structures Reports, Reinvestment Income Tax Credit applications, Photographic Documentations/Historic Resource Documentation Packages, National Register nominations and color consultation. She meets the National Park Service’s qualification standards and is included on several State of Vermont listings of pre-qualified historic preservation consultants.

Paula Sagerman has provided stewards of the historic built environment with documentation, preservation, and project review services since 1998. Clients include private homeowners, architects, engineers, non-profit organizations, regional planning commissions, and local, state, and federal government entities. Projects include National Register of Historic Places Nominations, Historic Resource Inventories and Surveys, Project Review for federal and state-funded undertakings (e.g. Section 106 and Act 250 Review), Building Condition Assessments, and Rehabilitation Investment Tax Credit Applications. Lyssa Papazian holds an MS in Historic Preservation, meets the National Park Service’s qualification standards, and is on regional pre-qualified lists of historic preservation consultants. Her firm specializes in federal and state tax credits for historic rehabilitation, preservation planning, project development, funding, regulation, documentation, and architectural history. She has been working professionally in the field for the past 33 years and has served municipal, non-profit, institutional, and private clients in VT and NH since 1998. She has listed 28 properties on the National Register; secured historic tax credits for 37 properties; stewarded dozens of projects through the state and federal regulatory process, and led community development projects using preservation for revitalization.

I have over 10 years of experience in historic preservation. I worked for the Western Center for Historic Preservation in Grand Teton National Park for 8 years. Primarily working on historic wood windows all over the Mtn West. I am currently working for HPTC at Fort Vancouver, NM. I helped build our shop from the ground up. I have instructed many of our newer employees on shop tools and safety. Additionally, I attended Beyond Hands-On Instructor Training in 2024.

I've been in the restoration and preservation field since 1979. I now travel to sites in a 70-foot rig to teach masonry preservation. If it needs a trowel to apply it, that is what I teach. I also attended Beyond Hands-On Instructor Training in 2024.

Christine Britton is an Associate, Project Manager, and Historic Preservation Specialist in the structural engineering department at JVA, Inc. She holds a Bachelor’s in Architectural Engineering from the University of Colorado Boulder and a Master’s in Historic Preservation from the University of Pennsylvania. Since joining JVA over a decade ago, Christine has worked on reports, assessments, and construction documents for historic buildings across Colorado and the western U.S. She is committed to supporting the rehabilitation and reuse of historic structures through collaborative engineering solutions. Christine co-led NPS preservation workshops at Pinnacles National Park in 2019 and 2022, and serves on the board of the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the Association for Preservation Technology.

Daniel Faia is a nationally recognized woodcarver, furnituremaker, chairmaker, and educator. He creates custom commissions and teaches small group workshops in his Rollinsford, NH studio. Whether a project involves an ornamental woodcarving, a unique furniture design, or a period reproduction, Dan’s primary goal is to produce an heirloom treasure using traditional methods. With three decades of experience, Dan is also a frequent contributor to Fine Woodworking magazine and has participated in demonstrations and exhibitions for organizations such as Colonial Williamsburg, Museum of Fine Arts-Boston, and NH Furniture Masters. I have been involved in historic preservation since 1984, working for a residential contractor and then moving to the National Park Service in 1990 working as a blacksmith, carpenter, and woodcrafter. Over the years I have had the opportunity to work on many unusual structures, lighthouses, onion domed minarets, and boat restorations from Puerto Rico to Oregon. I received a Quinque Fellowship in 2004 to travel for two months in Scotland visiting historic sites and meeting with preservation professionals from around the country. In my work with the NPS, I led seasonal crews of up to 10 workers teaching the skills needed to accomplish projects that involved everything from the foundation to the finial on the rooftop. I emphasized the importance of the historic fabric and how the details, for example, window preservation, all contribute to the authenticity of a building. I also attended Beyond Hands-On Instructor Training in 2024.

Jack of all trades and a master of them all. Blacksmithing (bronzecasting, lost wax casting). I first learned historic preservation skills in the 1980's through the "Restoration Workshop", a program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation (NTHP). I managed my own preservation company for 40 years, completing preservation and restoration projects ranging from simple African American churches (Tolson's Chapel, Sharpsburg, MD) to Founding Father's estates (Homewood, Baltimore Maryland and Doughoregan Manor, Howard County, Maryland). In addition to the skills listed previously, I am also able to repair and replace flat plaster, cast plaster, and plaster molding and medallions. I have repaired and reinstalled wood shutters. I have repaired timber frame barns, completed traditional exterior stucco. In my retirement, I have focused on passing on my skills and knowledge through projects with Historicorp and the NTHP's HOPE (Hands-On Preservation Experience) Program. My biggest challenge and greatest reward is working with the Accomplished Arts Apprentices program through the Peale Museum in Baltimore. I am teaching repointing, basic carpentry, and plaster to 10 young adults from marginalized communities, over the course of 16 weeks. In my retirement, I'm sharing my skills and knowledge with anyone willing to learn. I attended Beyond Hands-On Instructor Training in 2024. I live with my wife, Sarah, and dog, Jack, near the Appalachian Trail in Smithsburg, Maryland, where we operate two Airbnb's.

A preservationist at his core, David founded Double Hung, LLC in 1997, retaliating against the burgeoning window replacement industry. Recognizing that owners of historic properties were offered few viable options when deciding to replace or restore their original windows, David recognized the opportunity to fill an important need. Today, his company employs 34 people and undertakes projects large and small throughout the Southeast.

James owns Turner Restoration LLC in Detroit, MI, and has worked throughout the Midwest, with 69 % of his work on wood windows and 31% on steel windows, as well as stained and leaded glass repair. He served as the executive director of a preservation trades training program for five years. James attended Beyond Hands-On Instructor Training in 2024.

John Moore specializes in late 19th - early 20th-century masonry, wood balloon framed and early platform framed buildings, including joinery, windows, doors, roof systems, built-in gutters, and architectural details. He attended Beyond Hands-On Instructor Training (BHIT) in 2024.

John Speweik, a 5th-generation mason, has taught the masonry trade for 40 years in historic brick, stone, and lime mortar. He attended Beyond Hands-On Instructor Training in 2024. 

I received a Bachelor's degree in Fine Art (Sculpture) from Shepherd University, with a minor in Painting. Journeyed under several masters ranging in furniture restoration, blacksmithing, cabinetry, plaster (decorative and flat), stone masonry, brick masonry, timber frame and log cabin construction and restoration, fine carpentry, and museum mounting for artifacts. Journeyman-ships occurred in the Shenandoah Valley region, including Washington, DC. I created and still operate a turnkey, design build, and historic restoration company for the last 20 years in Lewisburg, WV. I have led and assisted in workshops in preservation on and off for the last 30 years. Lisa Sasser is an architect with over forty years of experience in historic preservation. She completed an apprenticeship in traditional carpentry, joinery and masonry at the National Park Service Historic Preservation Training Center. For 30 years, she worked on preservation projects nationwide with the National Park Service. Lisa continues to teach workshops on the principles and practices of field-based historic preservation. She attended Beyond Hands-On Instructor Training (BHIT) in 2024. She is a founding member and former President of the Preservation Trades Network, as well as a past board member and President of the Timber Framers Guild. Currently, she serves as a board member for Preservation Maryland and as an area representative to the Maryland Historical Trust's board.

I specialize in all facets of preservation carpentry, including replicating historic millwork, window and door design, fabrication, and repair, complex structural timber frame repairs, making and using molding planes to replicate moldings, sharpening, shop machines, and hand tools use and care, etc. Project leadership, work leader, and overall project management, working directly with clients.

Experience: Graduate of Belmont Technical College, internship at Lyndhurst National Trust Site, began National Park Service career at HPTC in 2006 as Exhibit Specialist Trainee (Carpentry Section), 2011 completed 12 week Furniture Making Intensive at North Bennett Street School, in 2012 accepted Exhibit Specialist Position at Delaware Water Gap NRA in 2012 and was lead preservation carpenter and work leader reignited their preservation program, in 2016 accepted staff Exhibit Specialist position at HPTC in the Wood-Crafting Section, and attended Beyond Hands-On Instructor Training (BHIT) in 2023.

Michael Schuller is president of Atkinson-Noland & Associates in Boulder, Colorado, and New York City, leading a consulting engineering firm specializing in evaluation and strengthening of historic materials and structures. He has worked on hundreds of notable projects around the world, including the Temple of Angkor Wat, Cambodia, Easter Island, the Brooklyn Bridge, and the United Nations buildings. He taught a course in Masonry Structural Design at the University of Colorado, Boulder, from 2000 through 2009 and in 2016. Mr. Schuller has over 100 publications relating to evaluation, repair, and structural behavior of concrete and masonry structures, and is a co-author of the book “Assessment and Retrofit of Masonry Structures”. He is a fellow of The Masonry Society and the Association for Preservation Technology. 

Mike Weibush used to work in the private sector doing extra fancy houses, but now loves the pace of preservation (slower and less yelling). He's taught two workshops with BEST so far, and attended Beyond Hands-On Instructor Training in 2024.

Patrick Kennedy has experience lifting buildings, working with volunteers, creating training workshops, working with log cabins, and wood shingle installation. He also attended Beyond Hands-On Instructor Training in 2024.

Sharon David graduated from Belmont College's Building Preservation and Restoration Program in 2023. She is currently an AmeriCorps member in Wheeling, WV, where she collaborates with community organizations to preserve historic sites and stimulate economic growth through adaptive reuse. Additionally, Sharon works with the Preservation Alliance of West Virginia to encourage young people to explore careers in the preservation trades. She also attended Beyond Hands-On Instructor Training in 2024.

I have hands-on experience in log building repair and preservation, as well as wooden window sash restoration and preservation. I have also led trainings in both realms. I attended Beyond Hands-On Instructor Training (BHIT) in 2023 and 2024.

I have a formal education and professional background in preservation carpentry, with nearly two decades of hands-on experience in the field. Since 2007, I have worked on a wide range of preservation projects for the National Park Service, contributing to the stewardship of nationally significant historic structures. Beginning in 2009, I transitioned into a leadership role, managing complex preservation projects with a primary focus on architectural millwork and traditional woodworking. My work has included the planning, fabrication, and installation of historically accurate components such as windows, doors, balustrades, siding, and ornamental trim—often using historically appropriate materials and joinery techniques. I have collaborated closely with architects, conservators, and skilled tradespeople to ensure that all work meets the highest standards of craftsmanship, historical integrity, and regulatory compliance. Through this work, I’ve developed a deep commitment to the long-term care and interpretation of our nation’s built heritage. I have spent over 50 years focusing on understanding the Building Science in existing buildings of many different types and teaching. In general, the goal of my teaching activities is to help folks understand how the existing building is or was managing the Water, Air, and Temperature for the building structure and the occupants, and the implications of what the proposed adaptive re-use would have on both the building structure and environment for the occupants or use.

I maintain a Professional Engineers License in Maine, Utah, Wyoming, and Idaho. My specialty is Adaptive Reuse: understanding how Water, Air, and Temperature were managed in the historic building and how the proposed reuse would impact the future life of the building and its proposed occupants.
